Demos at Gamers Haven in Parma Heights, Ohio! 0

Demos at Gamers Haven in Parma Heights, Ohio!

I went to Gamers Haven in Parma Heights, OH, met with Willy the owner, and we set up a regular demo event. The first and third Saturdays I’ll be at the store around 1 PM with some games. Some weeks it’ll be one company, like Eagle & Gryphon games or Looney Labs. Other weeks… Well, there’s another announcement coming, but that’s later this week. If you’re near Parma Heights, OH and want to check out some games, I’ll be there this Saturday. Unfortunately I have another commitment, so I’ll be getting there later than 1 PM, probably closer to 2 PM,...

Boardroomers Writeup – Kickstarter 0

Boardroomers Writeup – Kickstarter

Last night’s Boardroomers show was about Kickstarter, and there were a lot of interesting points brought up, but there are some points that I feel need to be covered more than they were during the show. I’ll leave those questions below, but I’m going to do an overview as to what I feel Kickstarter is. First and foremost, Kickstarter is a crowdfunding website. If you aren’t familiar, Kickstarter runs a marketplace where users can submit their ideas, Books, movies, plays, documentaries, and boardgames are just some examples of common projects. The designer posts how much money they’ll need to fund...

Conventia – So many conventions, so little time 1

Conventia – So many conventions, so little time

I love going to board game conventions, but I know that I’m not aware of a lot of them. There are the big ones: Origins, GenCon, PAX / PAX East, and of course Spiel in Germany. I’m also looking for the not-quite-as-big ones, like BGG.con, DicetowerCon, and World Boardgaming Championships. I also know there are smaller local cons to northeast Ohio, like AnCon and Con on the Cob. I’d like to have a list of the board game cons that are worth going to, and I’m going to miss some, so why not leave a comment below so you can...

Mars Needs Mechanics – A Review 1

Mars Needs Mechanics – A Review

I got to meet Ben Rosset when I went to the World Boardgaming Championships this year. I had seen some talk about his game, Mars Needs Mechanics, but I didn’t get a chance to sit down and learn the game. I made sure that at GenCon, I’d give his game a shot. If a guy has a giant rocket to help people find his game, I think it deserves a look. When there’s a really fun backstory for a game, I know it’s something I need to see. I really enjoyed the way the game worked and Ben’s enthusiasm helped show...

We’re gonna need a bigger bag… 2

We’re gonna need a bigger bag…

So I am almot back to the non-convention mindset, feeling rather rested, and decided to see what all games did I actually bring back from GenCon. I know I got some in trades, got some with credit that I had with companies, got a review copy or two, and bought a few. Shouldn’t be too many, right? Right?

Post GenCon! 0

Post GenCon!

I’ll be taking some pictures of the games we brought back, doing some write-ups, and planning some reviews soon. For now, I’m recovering from GenCon 2012. I had an absolutely awesome time. I got to hang out with friends, meet people I’ve only talked with on Twitter, and try some new games like Farmageddon, Forge, Dungeon Heroes, Mars Needs Mechanics, Morels, Sentinels of the Multiverse, and A Fistful of Penguins. There will be a review of Farmageddon hopefully by the end of the week. If there are any other games from that list you’d like to see reviewed, just let...
