Kickstarter Woes and Woahs 6

Kickstarter Woes and Woahs

Someone started a geeklist on BoardGameGeek about games that you’ve backed on Kickstarter and any regrets you have with the system. While there are certainly projects I regret backing, there are far more that I’m glad I helped make a reality. Below are some of those standout games. Most Disappointing Glory to Rome: Black Box edition is the first game that comes to mind. Glory to Rome is a strategic game where the cards represent the actions you can perform, the buildings you can build, as well as the materials to build those buildings. I really enjoy games that feature this...

I went to Gamers Haven in Parma Heights, OH, met with Willy the owner, and we set up a regular demo event. The first and third Saturdays I’ll be at the store around 1 PM with some games. Some weeks it’ll be one company, like Eagle & Gryphon games or Looney Labs. Other weeks… Well, there’s another announcement coming, but that’s later this week. Unfortunately I have another commitment, so I’ll be getting there later than 1 PM, probably closer to 2 PM,...

Boardroomers Writeup – Kickstarter 0

Boardroomers Writeup – Kickstarter

Last night’s Boardroomers show was about Kickstarter, and there were a lot of interesting points brought up, but there are some points that I feel need to be covered more than they were during the show. I’ll leave those questions below, but I’m going to do an overview as to what I feel Kickstarter is. First and foremost, Kickstarter is a crowdfunding website. If you aren’t familiar, Kickstarter runs a marketplace where users can submit their ideas, Books, movies, plays, documentaries, and boardgames are just some examples of common projects. The designer posts how much money they’ll need to fund...

Conventia – So many conventions, so little time 1

Conventia – So many conventions, so little time

I love going to board game conventions, but I know that I’m not aware of a lot of them. There are the big ones: Origins, GenCon, PAX / PAX East, and of course Spiel in Germany. I’m also looking for the not-quite-as-big ones, like BGG.con, DicetowerCon, and World Boardgaming Championships. I also know there are smaller local cons to northeast Ohio, like AnCon and Con on the Cob. I’d like to have a list of the board game cons that are worth going to, and I’m going to miss some, so why not leave a comment below so you can...
