“Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.”
As much as I love boardgaming, life has a way of taking priority. I’ve been quite busy since my last update, but thought I’d do a post to update everyone and actually talk about some gaming!
Sam and I recently opened our Etsy shop selling embroidered dice bags and it TOOK OFF! We expected a few orders, but nothing like what we saw. You guys went crazy for our bags, and we’re very thankful for the support. If you’re curious about the dice bags, please check out the Dice Bag page or the Etsy shop!
I’ve participated in a few podcasts, in some way or another. I am a frequent caller on CARDBOARD! with Rich Sommer, which is one of my favorite podcasts. I love listening to Rich just talk about games with people. It’s like being at the game store and just listening to people chat about games. It’s not always the newest games, but that’s not a bad thing as it helps people find out about other games. Rich occasionally leaves the microphone to grab games to check information, which just adds to the charm of the show.
I also was lucky enough to take part in the Low Player Count If You Buy One Game series. In each episode of IFB1G, they select a theme and each contributor selects one game that fits the theme that is the best in their eyes and why it’s a great game. I joined the crew for the Spooky Games episode and had a blast just doing a bit of recording.
Another podcast I’ve enjoyed recently is Mythos Busters. They focus on the Arkham Files games, especially the Arkham Horror Living Card Game. I’ve absolutely gone off of the deep end for this game and I can’t wait for more scenarios and cards!
BGG.Con was now two weeks ago and I’m still kind of recovering! I played so many games, most of them new to me, and had an absolute blast. As much as I love Origins and Gen Con, BGG.Con is just different. It’s much more casual, more focused on playing games, and overall feels more like a vacation to me than the other conventions. Of the 34 games I played at BGG.Con 2016, I think my favorite was probably Rallyman. The quick turns, planning a few turns in advance, and the way risks work is just a lovely combination. I’m looking to get this game ASAP.
I’ve also been spending my weekends demoing games at Critical Hit Games. Recently I taught the Harry Potter Deckbuilding Game, Colony, and Tides of Madness. I’m scheduled to teach Clash of the Battle Goats on December 10th and Cat Box on January 7th, so come by and check those games out. We also are working on scheduling an event for Mysterium. Of course, if you want to check out any other games, let me know and we can set up a demo. You can also watch my Facebook Event Page for updates as well. I’m also preparing for the annual Holiday Game Bash, an event run by a local group of gamers where we play games for about 12 hours straight!
If all of that weren’t enough, I’m working with my friend Bryan Fischer on a little something…
Get excited. Something I’ve been working on with @demo_ken & @jackal3d – Skirmish Dice has become Skirmish Dice Tactics. Be ready @TheUnpub pic.twitter.com/FVCEsTez7M
